La Casa del Califa is situated in the towns’ most important old square, its baroque style fountain surrounded by palm trees forms the focal point of what is considered to be one of Andalucías most seductive ‘plazas’. The entrance to the Hotel is directly opposite a fortified 15th.C. tower and the original town walls. Although the entrance to the hotel is on the bustling plaza the bedrooms look over a pedestrianised area of quiet narrow streets (two overlook the plaza). A large south facing sun terrace gives uninterrupted views over the Marismas Nature Park & the Sierras de Retin. The skyline is dominated by the various ranges of the Alcornocales Nature Park.

The town hall is expanding it's pedestrian programme so that now a large part of the walled town (built in the time of donkeys and carts) is traffic free and car parking is regulated through the town. The Califa offers you preferential rates for our own car park when booking ahead. Our brand new (2012) multi-level car park is just just 65m. from the hotel.

The beaches form part of the Atlantic 'Costa de la Luz' (Coast of Light) and for the most part are uncrowded & undeveloped. Sandy coves, long stretches of white sand & sheltered coves are typical here. The closest beach to the hotel is 12km. away at El Palmar. Trafalgar Bay & the coves of Los Caños de Meca are just a 15km. drive or bike ride.

The nearest Nature Reserve (Parque Natural de la Marismas de Barbate) is just 2 km. away while the Marine & Pine forest reserve of the Parque Natural de La Breña y los Acantilados is 5km. away. The closest entrance to the Alcornocales Natural Park is 25km. from Vejer.
