‘The Caliph's Garden’ is one of Andalucia’s prime eating destinations. You will be served fabulous North African & Middle Eastern food in a tranquil & unsurpassed setting in the heart of Vejer’s medieval quarter.

Enjoyable tasty dishes, stone vaulted cellars, an enchanted garden, a splashing fountain, scented plants & the haven of this quiet corner in the heart of Vejer will provide you with many memorable moments.

Ambiance & Architecture

One of the unique features of our restaurant is not only the original menu but the very different areas in which you can enjoy your time here. Once you come off the Plaza you walk down through a rocky tunnel (or alternatively a flower lined alleyway) into the Jardin. The restaurant is set in a quiet pedestrian area of tiny alleyways lined with cobbles.

If you join us during the day the shade of our Walnut, Lemon & Nispero (loquat) trees are the perfect place to relax after a morning visiting the sights of Vejer. The thickness of the centuries old walls - in places many meters deep - keep our building cool throughout the summer & warm in the winter.

A splashing fountain, scented plants & the haven of this quiet corner in the heart of Vejer will provide you with many memorable moments.

El Jardin - How about a romantic candlelit dinner in the 'Jardin' under the starlit skies?

Algibe – Enjoy a cosy meal under the dome of the 11th. C. Algibe. This unique space is actually the interior of an ancient water cistern built during the Islamic era of Vejer.

Templo – This is our interior dining room an early 16th.C stone barrel vaulted room, romantically lit and with a soothing atmosphere.

Pergola – The Pergola is the covered area of the garden flanked by a high stone wall and flower filled arches scented with Jasmine.

The Menu

The founder of the restaurant spent many years living in the Lebanon & later worked as a mountain guide in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. His understanding of Middle Eastern & Magreb cooking has produced a wonderfully varied & original menu of exotic & tasty dishes.

We have a range of fish dishes including the wonderful sea bass Tagra from Tangiers baked in a tagine with peppers & spices. For vegetarians we have over 11 different dishes available including our soups & fresh salads. For more traditional dishes we can offer you excellent meats straight from the barbecue served with a choice of sauces.

The Cafeteria and Bar

Drop in for a coffee or drink from midday onwards. We serve many varieties of herbal & normal tea including quality English tea. Of course most people drop in to try our famous Té Marroqui a gentle infusion of fresh mint & green tea with just a hint of rose water (with or without sugar). Of course we serve great coffee too, in fact the best Capuccinos in town are served here! Everyday we have freshly baked cakes plus a selection of both North African & Greek pastries.

The cafeteria is open for a snack, a drink or tea & pastries from 1200 to 2000.
